I checked and you can get The Weirdstone on Amazon. It's set in a place called Alderly Edge which is near me in the UK. It's now the home of the rich (the Beckhams had a house there when he played for Man U) but it's also an old village with a lot of legends. The author took a local legend about King Arthur spun it out and wove in a load of celtic magic.

I read a review of the Candle of distant Earth and it sounds interesting. Weirdly I don't read much sci-fi (except SGA andom).
