I've just been to Tesco. I know, it's very sad to be at a supermarket on a Saturday night but I needed a few things and I couldn't bare the thought of going tomorrow. It was like the desolation of Smaug in there. There was nothing on the shelves, empty boxes strewn across the floor and people picking through the remains like survivors of a disaster.

It was still busy, even at 9pm, although the guy on the check out said they were queued up the aisles in the afternoon, so not that busy. There were whole families in there frantically buying bags of nuts no one will eat and specialist turkey foil and other things you don't really need despite what the adverts tell you. There were children spinning trolleys round and chasing each other because where would you like to spend the Saturday before Christmas if you're nine?

And more terrifying then all of that, men. Unaccompanied men.

They were either clutching lists in their trembling hands, like some talisman that can save them from the terror of shopping on their own, or they were wild eyed and panicking because they had last minute gifts to buy and the shelves were kind of empty. Either way, they ran into my ankles with their trollys or they stopped abruptly mid-aisle (clearly baffled by what was happening to them) and I ran into them. I know I shouldn't mock but, dear god, it is scary how ill equipped they are to deal with it.

On the plus side I got what I needed and I also found some very, very cheap tuna steaks. Reduced from £7.99 to £1.49. Woohoo, tuna steaks with mango salsa tomorrow for me :-)

Oh, and even more exciting news, my new Eee PC arrived. It's sooooo small. Lovely little thing. Means I can stay in touch with all of you wonderful folks when I'm traveling without having to drag my laptop with me. Don't get me wrong, I love my laptop, but the 17" wide-screen-ness of it, which made me buy it, makes it kind of heavy.
