I was reading [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan's post about how inconsistent the writing of the characters is in Atlantis and thinking about how disgruntled I am that the show's been canceled, when I had an idea. It's either insane or brilliant, probably the former.

Wouldn't it be great if we had a show we had control over, one that we could point out the flaws in the plots and characters etc? Wouldn't it be great if it was aimed at the people who actually watched it, not some other, younger, demographic? Wouldn't that be cool?

Then I thought, with all studios love of reality tv and viral marketing, maybe someone would pick up the idea. Maybe they'd set up a community and let us create a show, pick the genre, the characters, cast the actors, write scripts, pick plots. They could even get two shows out of it. One show that was the real tv show and then one about the making and all the wrangling and arguing that would no doubt go on.

Failing that, we could just present them with a fait accompli. Create a show, write some cannon plots (and no doubt fan fic) and then say 'here you are, here's a show and an audience that doesn't even exist yet. See how much we love it.' If there were enough buzz and momentum behind it someone might pick it up.

F*ck it, maybe we should all try to start a TV channel, take the power away form the people who make the choices now, choices based only on money. We should have a tv revolution like Joss Whedon said in the Dr Horrible panel at Comic Con.

It's ludicrous, I know, but I'm so annoyed by TV execs mucking up my shows that I'm inventing mad schemes to compensate.
