What do we know, as cannon, about John's parents? I've read so much fiction that it all blurs together. Can you help? It's for a fic where I don't want to contradict cannon, just add/spin it.

that's from fanon... there's a picture on his chest of drawers thingy in his room but i've never seen it clearly (i'm not a weird stalker or anything - i just remember noticing it in a scene t'other day)...

someone was saying in lavvyan's journal that maybe his bio on the website said his dad was a general, but it's definitely never been mentioned in the show...

i want to read that fic where he and rodney pretend to be a couple to annoy his dad now...

I'm gonna repeat what i said to lavvyan in case you see this first - the one and only thing he's EVER said regarding family is in Letters From Pegasus - 'some of us don't have any family' (i'm paraphrasing - it could be 'not all of us have someone at home' - something along those lines).

he's never said anything else and we don't know anything about his family or even where he's from!

I get so confused with fics/canon though - i always thought his dad was in the army but i've recently re-watched season one and two and nope, nothing, nada, not a sausage... ;D

and... are you guys writing a fic together? i might have to get VERY excited by that idea...

Yeah, as of what has aired anywhere, we know literally nothing about his family. Nada. Zip. Zilch. In his room there's a picture of Joe Flanigan as a kid with Evil Kneivel, so I usually assume that's kid!John and Kneivel. In "Letters from Pegasus," he says something along the lines of "Not everybody's got someone at home," when asked about his message.

Also, the website used to say (may still say, I don't know) that his father was, quote, "a Cold War general," but Joe Mallozzi has explicitly stated that that will be contradicted in an upcoming episode in Season 4, called "Outcast." (there are spoilers at the link)

Meaning that, until later this season, anything you write? Won't contradict canon. :)

Can only agree with what everyone else is saying - John has only mentioned his family two times in the entrire show, in Letters from Pegasus when he says he doesn't have anyone back on earth, and in Sunday when he talks about his failed marriage.
I guess we'll find out with Outcast and I'm trying not to spoil myself too bad for that one... though everything I've seen of John so far just screams daddy-issues.

That's true. Also, his problems with authority figures lead me to believe that he might have had a pretty strict upbringning. But now I'm just speculating...
