Time flies

I can't believe how quickly it's come round but my trip to Las Vegas is now less than a week away. I fly on Saturday, via O'Hare. Not overly pleased with that but I console myself with the fact that O'Hare is better than London Heathrow. But then sticking hot pins in your eyes is probably better than flying through London Heathrow. I did become separated from my luggage last time I flew through O'Hare though so I'm hoping this won't happen as arriving in Las Vegas with no clean underwear is probably not fun. I think I'll slip a pair in my hand luggage.

What I really posted for was not to ponder my underwear but to ask if anyone has things I must see and do. I've got a couple of guide books and I'll be doing the regular sites on the Strip in my 3 days of vacation and the evenings of the days of the convention. I'm off for a day trip to the Valley of Fire too. Any tips for what's not worth bothering with on Strip so I don't waste my precious time.

Also, any must eat restaurants or must visit shops?

The mall in planet hollywood is great. The Steakhouse in Circus Circus is to die for, seriously. Best resturant there, I think. Take the gondola ride through the Venetian just to say you did it ;) What hotel are you staying at?

If you get a day, go out to Death Valley National Park. It's our biggest national park, I used to work out there. It's cool ;) Well, not cool exactly, but it should only be about 110 during June!!

I'm staying at the Venetian, well, the Palazzo which is kind of part of it. Thing is I've been to the real Venice twice though so not sure what I'll make of it. I think I'll love it :-)

I've only got 1 day before the convention, which I imagine I'll be surrendering to jet lag, and then 2 days after the thing finishes. I've already booked a full day trip to the Valley of Fire so I doubt I'll get time to do Death Valley, even though it'd be cool to go.

I shall definitely sample the steakhouse at Circus Circus however (I lov steak...mmmmm....) and the shops. I'd not heard that mall was good so I'll give it a go.

Weirdly my boss said the same thing, except minus the squishes :-) He's almost as excited as I am. I shall take lots of pictures because I always do.

So excited.

Please tell me I'm not the only person who would actually pay more to avoid LHR?

Have fun on your trip. =)

Yup, I paid more to not fly through any London airports for my San Diego trip later in the year. Work's paying for this one but I'm sure it's more expensive to fly out of Manchester.

Did you see the story on the BBC website about the bloke at LHR with a picture of Optimus Prime on his t-shirt who was told he couldn't get on the plane because there was a picure of a gun (part of Optimus Prime's arm) on it. Just mad!

And here I thought it was only here in the USA where airport security has gotten to be entirely asinine. :-p

Mandalay Bay (way down at the end of the strip) feeds you WELL in their Cafe and has a really neat shark's reef. The Venetian is great fun to wander through as their theme is really pretty (though the shops are expenive of course). Ceasar's Palace forum is expensive but has some cool shops. They have penguins at the Flamingo! Real live ones, too. ^___^ Go see the Alladin's shopping Market (can't remember it's name) as it has some reasonbly priced stores and they have a rain shower every hour or so. Those are the high points I'd recommend having been there several times.

Spare pair of undies is always good in case of lost luggage, especially when dealing with O'Hare. It's bad. If Heathrow is worse, I never, ever want to see Heathrow. >.>

Have fun!

Thank you. I shall keep a note of these and try to visit. I quite fancy the shark reef and I'm staying in the Venetian so I guess I'll see that the most.

Heathrow is truely, truely appalling. O'Hare might loose your luggage and they might be a bit slow but for some reason it seems better than Heathrow. There was natural light for one and the place didn't seem to be entirely constructed of static electrcity, the color orange and old sandwich smell.

Since you're staying at the Venetian, try and get to Thomas Keller's Bouchon for dinner. Pricy but amazing and so worth it. He's a world reknowned chef and well, I'm a culinary student/foodie and not usually easily impressed with celebrity chefs and I was floored.

Amazingly lovely. Wish I were going back!

Sounds fabulous. I'm also not usually impressed by celeb chefs (we have so many here) so that place sounds fantastic. I'll give it a go.

Ooh, my absolute favorite restaurant EVER is Mon Ami Gabi, in the Paris hotel. It's directly across from the Bellagio, and if you wait for a table on the terrace, you can watch the fountains as you eat. It's also a steakhouse and a little pricey but absolutely well worth doing.

I read about Mon Ami Gabi in my guidebook and thought I'd have to try it. Glad it gets a recommendation. Also I used to live in London so pricey is all relative, especially with the exchange rate being so good.

New York, New York is worth it just to try to figure out what kind of crack the architects were on....

Whatever you do, DON'T BOTHER with the pirate ship show at the Treasure Island resort - so, so, so, SOOOOOOOO RUBBISH!!!!

I'd definitely recommend seeing the fountain show outside the Bellagio at least once - it's on every 15 minutes to different pieces of music and is just amazing!

I heard that the TI show was rubbish. Apparently it used to be good and now isn't. Oh well, there's loads of other stuff to do.

I think the whole place is done by architects on crack. I'm really looking forward to it :-)

Ooh, also, the Garden thingy at the Bellagio is amazing - it's weird - some fake stuff but mostly real, very cool though.

I don't recall if you're into thrill rides, but some friends of mine greatly enjoyed the ones at the top of the Stratosphere Hotel.

Good luck with your luggage. I always pack one complete change of clothing in my carry on bag for that reason.

I'm a complete wuss baout rides so I don't think I'll be doing that.

I shall have a change of underwear but I'm willing to be grubby and buy stuff if my luggage is missing. I always pack too much without putting clothes in my hand luggage too.

Vegas!!!!

You have to check out the Statosphere Tower and check X-Scream and Insanity, the Ride for me. I know Big Shot, but the other 2 rides are new. They still had a rollercoaster 5 years ago, which was kinda lame.

I hope you'll have tons of fun.*squishes*

Hmmm just watching the videos made me feel queasy so I don't think I will be riding them. I'm rubbish at rides.
