Title: Recipes from Pegasus
Rating: PG
Pairing: Subtle McShep and obvious Teyla/Lorne
Spoilers: All 5 seasons
Summary: After the stargate program was de-classified in 2010 and the initial furore died down, the book that captured the zeitgeist of the entire planet, tapping in to the almost insatiable curiosity for all things related to the Stargate Program, was Recipes from Pegasus. It was an accessible way for everyone to understand a little bit more about the people who had spent the last eight years living in an alien galaxy, fighting to keep Earth safe. It's author, Grace Mallory, the head chef of the Atlantis mission became a household name even though she appeared on a very few TV shows during the publicity tour. More importantly her stories about the daily lives of the people of Atlantis made them appear much more human than all the high octane TV specials did.

Read the pdf file here at box.net or at megaupload here. After a few issues, there's a word version at the box.net site for those who can't view the pdf.

After many problems, I've put an unformatted (no pics or backgrounds) here
that everyone should be able to read.

Notes: This was written as a Christmas present for my f-list and now that the festive season has passed and they've unwrapped their presents I thought it was time to publish it. I have to say an enormous thank you to
[livejournal.com profile] winkingstar  posted too. There's some saying about great minds that comes to mind :-)

So, it's not accessible for everybody?

Ack. Adobe tells me there was an error in this file and it cannot be repaired. I've got Adobe 9, so it should be up to date on everything.

I really want to read this story. Is there maybe a different type of file I could download?

Hmmm, it should be working but who knows why it doesn't. I'll put a word version up there too, but it is a 1mb bigger.

I'm just uploading a zipped file with an html version in it. Save the file and the folder of pics to your machine and it should be viewable. The formatting is a bit screwy (i.e. it doens't look like the cookery book I wrote) but it's perfectly readble.

Hmmm. Well, I couldn't get that to work either, so I deleted everything and started over with IE. (I was using Firefox.) I got the pdf version from Megaupload, and that seems to be working. Sorry for putting you through all the extra effort.

Off to read!

Ignore the comment about the html version, the zip file was screwy. There's a word version now.

This was amazing! Wonderful job! I loved all the little stories (so detailed and sweet) and especially the story of Lorne and Teyla's wedding.

And the recipes are really intriguing. :)

That was so fun and cute! I downloaded both versions from box.net but couldn't open them, which is really weird since I have a Mac and it can usually open anything. Thanks for the version on LJ - what I could read of the scribbles on the napkin were pretty funny. Thanks again!

That's really cool! I've only skimmed so far, but I like your selection of recipes and the cook's perspective/commentary.

Hee, it's weird that we had the same idea (http://codenamebacon.wetpaint.com/) at the same time. Hivemind! :D I was especially intrigued by your own interpretations of tuttleroot soup and ruus wine. :)

.eta: I hope it's okay if I link to this from my cookbook? :)

I know. I couldn't believe it when you posted yours. For some reason I seemed to think that sticky potatos were the right way to go, mainly because I'd just stuck a batch to the bottom of the pan :-)

Of course it fine to link to mine from yours. I'll edit my post to link to yours too if that's okay.

I love how this shows that food really does bring people together. The bits of stories, the feeling of home and family, creates this amazingly real view of the Atlantis expedition.

Food + fandom = ♥
