Hope everyone's 2009 will be excellent.

I took this today (30th December, yes DECEMBER. It's not even New Year yet) in Tesco. It's on the aisle with the Christmas stuff they're trying to sell off. In fact it's opposite the Christmas puddings they have left. No, your eyes are not lying, they are f*cking Easter eggs. In December!

Also, I just found the post I made on Christmas day wishing you all a good day didn't post. I was posting from the browser on my phone from bed before I got up, so I didn't check it actualy posted. Silly me, trusting the phone I helped to make :-) So, I hope you had a good day. If you didn't, I hope the New Year will bring you all you hope for.

I have to say a huge thank you to [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan  for her fantabulous present. I'm quite sure you know exactly what I was imagining at the end, [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan . Thank you, it's brilliant.

I went out this morning and had a little walk up on the hill about a mile from where I live. The cloud was in low again and the day before it was great driving up there on the way to the shops so I thought I'd try to get some pictures. The one I really wanted was in the village with the church not much more that a shadow rising out of the gloom but there was no where to really get the shot.

I bought a Nintendo Wii. It'd fab, even if I'm deeply rubbish at the games. 9 shots for a 3 par hole in the golf! Even Rodney would be mocking me. The cow racing is loads of fun, as is shooting aliens. I just spent a hour playing the Wii Sports and actually worked up a bit of a sweat. Terrible really, how unfit I am. But, that's part of the plan for the Wii. I'm going to buy a Wii fit board after Christmas (when I hope there will actually be some in the shops) because I'm way more likely to use that than join a gym.

It did make me want to write a Wii Atlantis story. I think John and Ronon would like the sick humour of Destroy all Humans, you just know Teyla will be an ace at SSX Blur and Rodney would hate playing Big Brain Academy in case he didn't win.

My folks, my brother and his girlfriend are coming over tomorrow so they can all have a play. I'm sure my bro has already had a go of someone's but Dad should enjoy himself, as long as he doesn't put his back out. Mum can't really have a go as she can't see. Mind you I think she'd probably get as high a score as me as I'm crap. And she can use the force. She used to manage to throw a rolled up dish cloth at trouble makers across the class room when she was teaching craft classes just aiming from their voices.

For lunch I'm making a tuna wellington as my brother and his girlfriend don't eat meat. She doesn't eat onions or garlic either which is a nightmare. I've made the mushroom pate part already with some chestnut and prorchini mushrooms so I can assemble them tomorrow after I steam the spinach. I think I'll do individual ones rather than one large one, mainly because I've got small-ish pieces of tuna steak. I've also made cocoa snaps (like ginger snaps but with cocoa) and I'm going to make a tangerine mousse to go with them. I shall let you know how it goes.

One of the guys at work is jumping ship and leaving before we all have to go in March. I asked him if he wanted a cake and, if so, what sort. He said, thinking he was being smart, that he'd like a woman jumping out of the cake. Because I know I can do craft things, and I'd made a cakes with figures on before, I said 'okay'. He was shocked but I said I'd use marzipan. In the end I didn't because I knew the arms wouldn't work. I used a Barbie and made her a little outfit.

Okay, so I was in the supermarket the other day and spotted this cookie packet and nearly burst out laughing. My mind may be in the gutter but the illustration looks nothing like Matchmakers. For those outside the UK who might not have heard of them Matchmakers are rather gorgeous little chocolate sticks with mint crisp pieces in.

It's a set of stereo headphones code-named Radek!

I work for a cell phone manufacturer and all the cell phones have female code names before they're announced and the accessories have male names. And yes it is because the accessories plug into the phones, the pins fitting snugly into the phones connector! Bloody male engineers. Still, it does lead to some fun finding out the names of the latest bit of kit that they design.

I checked the list today and there's no John or Rodney, but there's a David (portable changer) and a Jason (a multi-charger). I like to think that if Rodney and John ever appear that they'll be two accessories that work together perfectly. Maybe a beautiful, black flight case (John, of course) to protect the phone from scratches and a blue-tooth enabled watch that has more gadgets and functions than you can imagine and lets you use the phone (in it's flight case) as a life signs detector.

On to more mundane things I've had a stinking cold all week and Japanese visitors at work. Barely a moment to myself to blow my nose. Absolutely worn out by it all. Of course instead of having a weekend to catch my breath and sleep I've got a friend coming to stay for the weekend. Oh well, onwards and upwards.

So, after all the whining about being busy my dinner with the big boss never happened as his plane was trapped in Stockholm by a big snow storm and then when they were finally going to leave an hour late, one of the air hostesses was taken ill. I think he was just leaving at about 7.30pm so he'd have gotten into Manchester airport about 9pm and then to the hotel 9.30. So we called it off. I did manage to have a good trip round the Christmas markets though, met the guy my dad works for (he does kind of paid volenteer work at a craft studio for people with mental health problems) and bought my boss' leaving present. Cute baby socks and things.

Oh, and this made me laugh

This coming week (actually, possibly this month) is going to be really busy.

Today, I had a meeting about package hardening!

I only just managed to contain myself in the supermarket. I was behind an idiot woman at the express check out. Note the name. Express, meaning  accelerated, fast, high-speed, nonstop, quick, rapid, swift. Not in her world.

I couldn't believe it. She had that glazed pout that Victoria Beckham has most of the time, the one that makes you wonder if she's got some sort of brain injury. I think even the woman serving was stunned by her ineptitude. I limited myself to eye rolling when what I really wanted to do was shout at her. This is what was going on in my head.

"What are you doing? Stop rummaging in your bag! If you're looking for your wallet, why didn't you do that when you were stood in the queue for ten minutes rather than when the server is already ringing up your goods? Come on, just pull a bag off the stand. Good god, come on it's just a frigging carrier bag not a mensa puzzle. That's it, rub it between your finger and thumb. There you are it's open now, aren't you clever? Oh, okay put your purse on the floor, that makes sense and wastes another minute where you have to work out what you were doing when you stand back up. Jesus, are you a goldfish? Stop acting like this is the fist time you've ever done this. I know you must have been in a shop before and I'm pretty sure I've had the misfortune to be stuck behind you in Tesco before now. Oh, yes now you have to pay. So that wasn't your wallet you were getting out before. WHAT ARE YOU DOING. GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!!!! And please god, have pulled out of the car park before I have to."

I've finally finished making my fannish Christmas presents and I'm going to post them out this week. So if you've not signed up yet (or can't remember if you have) leave your address in a comment here, all screened of course, and you too can have an non-Christmasy, possibly useful, Atlantis themed present. Has to be said, I'm pretty damn pleased with how they've turned out.

I can't believe it really. I'm just so happy, mainly because I wanted Obama to win but there's also an awful lot of relief that Sarah Palin is not going to be anywhere near anything important. Of course she'll probably get a talk show on Fox, where she'll fit right in.

What upsets me though is the Yes vote for proposition 8. Very depressing that a state that can vote for change and Obama and all things good can then decide that it's okay to limit who people can marry. Baffling.
anyanka_eg: (close cat)

I know it's a little nuts to be nervous about an election in another country but, hell, this one counts. What's annoying is there's nothing I can do to affect it and now I'm stupidly worried that people won't vote the way the polls are showing or that for some reason the people who said they'd vote Obama don't vote because the polls are saying it's in the bag.

Anyway, I was speaking to a friend who lives in Holland and he told me he's going to the US Embassy to the election party there. Don't ask how he got the invite because I have no idea. He does this sort of thing (he got me into the Return of the King premiere in London). He said he's not pretending to be the Scottish Consul General, so who knows. He said he's looking forward to the evening as obviously the staff are mostly Republicans right now and he wants to watch them squirm. Of course I think that means he's jinxed it because I'm a pessimist.

Fingers crossed though.

Might have to have a drink...

Possibly take up smoking again...

God!

This was the view from my bedroom window this morning. The hill has disappeared in the clouds, something that happens all the time, but there's white stuff all over the place! Totally doesn't happen in October.

Okay, so it's not much snow but I still feel all festive, which is mad because it's not even November yet. However I have posted my Christmas (reverse) wish list. Leave a comment there if you want a Christmas present.

In other news, I'm seriously considering a move to Sweden next year with work, but we haven't seen the relocation package yet so it's still all up in the air. My boss has me running all sorts of odd projects to do with the handover of work, which is actually kind of cool as I can spend my days writing stuff with my head phones on and being anti-social :-)

The camera was the one from my phone and, despite the fact that it's one of the phones I helped make, I have to say it's crap. To be fair I said that at the time and no one listened. Ho hum, maybe that's why we're downsizing.

Well, the clocks have gone back here in the UK, the nights are drawing in and there's a chill in the air making it feel like it's actually getting on for winter. Don't panic though, it's still raining here even though it's now a cold rain rather than warmish rain. I swear it's not stopped since I got back from Comic Con in July.

More importantly though the mammoth Christmas project is nearing completion (thanks to the encouragement and help of [livejournal.com profile] sulien77 ) and it's now time to think about putting it all together and working out numbers. So, if you would like an Atlantis based festive gift, that's hopefully a little bit useful to you as well as fun, please let me know. Post a comment (they're screened, of course) and let me know your address, even if you think I already have it, so I can have them all here.

It's not Christmas themed so if you don't celebrate Christmas but would still like an Atlantis pressie please feel free to comment too.
